Original illustration from The Lost Forest, page 12

$75.00

The Lost Forest in northern Minnesota remains because of an original survey error in 1882.  The old growth pines are now preserved, as The Lost Forty, a Scientific and Natural Area within the Chippewa National Forest due to sleuthing among the old maps and notes in the 1950's. "In the fall of 1882 Josiah R. King and his three-man crew were hired to survey ... in the state of Minnesota." Here is the original illustration by Betsy, an acrylic painting on paper, 6 x 7 inches, that was used in The Lost Forest, by Phyllis Root, University of Minnesota Press, 2016.
